The Fire Academy is the academic services division of The Fire Network. It is an educational services program aimed at

helping students improve their academic performance by providing a variety of opportunities for academic enrichment, tutorial services, and leadership development. Research provides evidence that Academic OST (Out of School Time) has a positive effect on academic achievement. We are committed to partnering with schools, parents, and students to close the achievement gap. The Fire Academy's team is made up of competent, passionate, and influential educators, tutors, and youth workers who desire to see students succeed in every area of their lives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Program Leaders work with an assigned group of students, student to staff ratio is contingent upon CDC guidelines. Program Leaders act as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor.  Program Leaders must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe and nurturing environment for the students they teach. A Program Leader’s ability to establish authority and connections through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in The Fire Academy’s students reach their potential takes a tremendous amount of hard work, flexibility, and commitment. 

 

Note: This position will be in-person working at the school site. The Fire Academy is taking all necessary precautions to ensure our employees' safety.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment, using curriculum and materials provided by the program.

  • Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging, one in which kids want to be in.

  • Support students in making positive behavior choices and take disciplinary measures when appropriate.

  • Engage children and youth by following, implementing, and assisting in creating lesson plans.

  • Ensure student safety by assisting in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.

  • Maintain student safety by taking roll and reviewing sign-in/ sign-outs for students and volunteers.

  • Identify student needs and communicate to Site Coordinator, teachers, school administration, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.

  • Commit to a full-year program, demonstrated by arriving on-time, every day and completing timecards appropriately.

  • Participate in staff development activities.

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year experience working with young children and the ability to inspire and motivate.

  • Proof of graduation from High School or G.E.D.; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Copy of diploma and/or degree will be requested, if hired.

  • 48 college semester or 60 college quarter units required or 2 years tutoring experience.

  • Ability to speak and write standard English appropriate in a public-school setting.

 

Background Checks/Testing:

  • Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)

  • Provide a clear TB test

  • Pass Advanced Math and English skills (K – 8) testing

 

Hours: Monday to Friday

Pay Rate: $17.25/Hourly

Site Leader (Part-Time)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Manages all aspects of a single Fire Academy educational site (in-person and/or virtually) to ensure that the program meets educational and recreational objectives and is managed in accordance with policies and procedures including safe work practices. Supervises all staff and volunteers assigned to the site to provide well-coordinated student assistance. Meets all documentations requirements. Serves as a liaison with parents, collaborators, school management display the site and the program positively. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Supervises all staff and students either In-person or virtually. 

• Manages site staff and their development and performance.

• Interviews, recommends and evaluates site staff members.

• Maintains comprehensive student and volunteer records and product reports. 

• Designs a site program schedule together with The Fire Academy administrative team such that students have access to snack time, homework help and a variety of recreational, educational and enrichment activities. 

• Communicates with school administrators, school staff and parents on a regular basis regarding program activities, both in-person and/or virtually. 

• Ensures accuracy of data entry and confidentiality of student records.

• Manages and maintains student attendance data and parent authorization systems. 

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Other Responsibilities: 

• Implements the safety plan at the site. 

• Implements other human resource policies and procedures. 

• Attends Site Coordinator meetings in-person and/or virtually, and other meetings and trainings as requested. 

• Supervises, trains, and develops subordinates in line with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the organization. 

• Completes supervisory responsibilities in a timely and thorough manner. 

• Maintains highest degree of confidentiality in student, staff, and management matters. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

• Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or 1 year of program experience within The Fire Academy In lieu of Bachelor’s degree is required 

• At least one year in a supervisory or leadership position is highly preferred. 

• Previous classroom experience is required. 

• Must meet the minimum qualifications set by the partner district for a classroom instructional aide. 

 

OTHER SKILLS: 

• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, public officials, private sector officials, parents, and community leaders. 

• Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others. 

• Excellent organizational and management skills. 

• The position may alternate between Distance Learning and In-person Learning. You must have the flexibility to adapt to business need. 

• Must have the ability to utilize various digital learning platforms.

 

COMPUTER & EQIUPMENT SKILLS: 

• Spreadsheets Excel 

• Use typical office equipment 

• Zoom, Google Classroom, and other digital platforms 

• E-mail and Internet software

INTERNSHIPS

The Fire Network is looking for students interested in business, writing, marketing, fitness and athletics or education to help our students and clients. We are looking for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students looking to get hands-on experience by working with our company. Interns will participate in a weekly staff meeting to help them gain experience working with students and learn how to strategize and operate a small business. We welcome questions, ideas and input from our interns and welcome them as a part of our team for the duration of their internship. We hope to help our interns gain valuable knowledge and experience during their time with our organization.

 

Our internship program offers high school, undergraduate, and graduate students an opportunity to:

1.    Work with students in an educational setting.

2.    Gain business administration experience. 

3.    Develop social media and online content.

4.    Work with a team and learn project management in a collaborative environment.

5.    Help upcoming authors publish their books.

 

REQUIREMENTS

•    Participation must be for school or some form of credit, letter of recommendation and signing of hours available. 

•    Must be team-oriented.

•    Be able to use Zoom and G-Suite/Microsoft Office to full extent.

•    Have a positive attitude.

•    Have enough patience to work with young students.

•    Be available for at least 2-5 hours per week.
